Ombudspersons, originally referred to as ombudsman, have been around for quite some time, mostly existing in government systems to support leadership.
The Oxford English Dictionary (2017) defines an ombudsperson as “a person who handles complaints, a mediator; a spokesperson for the rights of a particular individual or group.”
At the University of Miami, an Ombudsperson serves you, as a student, to help resolve your concern whether that be about your academic, extracurricular, or social life. We are here to listen to you, whether you are sure about your next step or not, and to help connect you to a way to resolve the concern.
